The Porta a Porta service of TEB Solucions participates in the project ‘Up! Energía’ by the non-profit organisation  Factor Escucha, which aims to create job opportunities for people at risk of social exclusion through the production of sustainable energy from organic coffee residues.

In November and December a pilot project was carried out in Barcelona’s districts of Gràcia and Sants, creating job opportunities for 4 delivery persons with intellectual disabilities of TEB Solucions, who have collected and stored about one tonne of used coffe grounds per week from 80 cafeterias, restaurants and hotels. These residues are later converted into pellets, a solid bio-fuel for stoves and fireplaces that is more efficient and ecological than wood, through a drying process that takes place in the premises of ‘Up! Energy ‘in Montcada and Reixach.

The initiative, which has been echoed by media such as El Periódico or betevé, belongs to the concept of circular economy, based on the use and recycling of resources in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. The objective is to consolidate and expand the project in 2018. The growth potential of this cleaner energy is very significant: with all the coffee grounds generated in a year in Spain, 200,000 homes could be heated during the three winter months.

Ecological and socially responsible last mile delivery

Porta a Porta is a non-profit initiative of TEB Solucions that provides job opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities in the service sector. In addition to ecological and last mile home deliveries, it also provides concierge and storage services, carries out errands, and accompanies people with reduced mobility.
