Lucía Pazmiño, first consul of Ecuador, has paid her first visit to a special employment centre in Catalonia. Pazmiño wanted to see at first hand how we work and give support to the initiative by the TEB Cooperative Group to set up a centre of this kind in Ecuador.

During the visit, Francesc Martínez de Foix explained the interview he had on 12th January in Quito with the vice-president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, who is very much aware of disability and has backed a law obliging all companies, both private and public, to include 4% of people with disability in their workforce.

Martínez de Foix outlined the Catalan model of special employment centres to Moreno and a group of Ecuadorian businesspeople, who he encouraged to carry on working on the proposal. The TEB Cooperative Group offered Ecuadorian organisations its know-how to help implement the project and resources are currently being sought to set up a paint factory with the support of Tcolors, a hostel along the lines of INOUT Hostel and a call centre, involving knowledge transfer from the Integralia Foundation.

The director of TEB explained not only our experience as a special employment centre, but all the integration programmes for people with disability, including employment in ordinary companies, and the work done through the INCORPORA programme run by “La Caixa”.

Lucía Pazmiño pledged to work through the consulate to bring these projects to fruition so that Ecuador can make progress in protection for people with disability.
